Government Medical College, Amritsar is an entity of the Government of Punjab and under the administrative control of Directorate of Research & Medical Education, Mohali. Primary Functions of Government Medical College Amritsar:

Educating and training medical professionals through undergraduate (MBBS) and postgraduate (MD, MS, Super Specialization) programs.

Research in medical and allied fields.

Training in various paramedical courses.

Tertiary health care to people living in and around the region

Emergency service including trauma and disaster management.

The college is affiliated to Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot. The admissions to the state quota seats of undergraduate and postgraduate courses and para-medical courses of the college are regulated through the University.
